NATURAL GAS LOGS

Natural gas fireplace equipment uses realistic, natural-looking logs and a controllable gas burner to create a fire so life-like, you will find it difficult to tell the difference from a wood burning fire. Natural gas logs provide convenience, cleanliness and safety for your home and family.

Efficiency:
Gas logs and fireplaces only need to be set up once. No more carrying in logs to burn and there are no ashes to carry out as with wood burning fireplaces. Free up that space on your patio or driveway used to store firewood. Get a roaring fire instantly. With the flip of a switch or the turn of a knob, gas logs and fireplaces provide instant ambiance. When the fireplace has served its purpose, a switch or knob shuts the logs off. Because of their efficient combustion, there is less pollution. Gas logs add no creosote build-up to your chimney and there are no hot ashes or surprising sparks to drop onto your carpeting.

Features:
Offered in a variety of styles and configurations, natural gas logs and fireplaces are ideal for almost any situation in new or existing homes.

  • Gas logs resemble wood logs and may be installed in a new or existing fireplace with a chimney. The chimney damper and the glass doors should be open when logs are "burning."
  • Unvented logs may be used in a fireplace that has no chimney.
  • Stand alone gas fireplaces are typically freestanding units with doors. Most units produce radiant heat and some have heat exchangers and blowers.
  • Fireplace inserts are manufactured units designed to fit into a fireplace and provide heat into the living area.

Several manufacturers offer gas fireplace logs that can be turned on or off remotely using a light switch. This switch operates an electric gas valve to turn the gas off or on. Another choice offers control of the gas logs with a transmitter similar to the remote control for your TV set. One manufacturer has a remote control unit that allows you to control the height of the flame in your fireplace!

Note:
Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Columbia Gas of Maryland support a thorough examination, by the purchaser, of both vented and unvented logs. There are some unsettled air quality issues with unvented appliances we want our customers to be aware of. We can not make a recommendation, but we want our customers to fully consider the features and advantages of both options, vented and unvented.
